I decided to give myself an essay title and run with it, I’ve felt stuck with writing of recent. I asked, ‘What's beneath the surface?’ and this is what came out the other side.
A bottle of rum we can scale into two things the bottle and the contents. The container is necessary, but what lies beneath the surface of the glass container holds the promise. The joy isn’t in the bottle, it’s in the breaking open and drinking it.

Apples are tasty to eat and contain seeds for life that continue after its flesh has moved from its skin.
It's a scary thing to reveal what's beneath us, the darkness of the inner world which reveals who we are in a world that shouts, be an authentic individual by sorting yourself into labels marketed by beings with capital attached in those memetic seeds.
JULY 2017 Amsterdam
And in 2017 I was neck deep in personal shadow work. it was an arduous trek and fruitful eventually.
How would life be without shadow? Without light there is no shadow, just darkness.
Photographers love shadows.
Shadow emerges with more light. As the light moves, the shadow changes. The shadow is fluid and inseparable from its source, It moves with the light and reveals your depth. The brighter the light, the sharper the shadow. It is not the enemy of light, its the Rum, Ha! Metaphorically speaking, or not as Rum is referred to as a spirit. :)
Living is simpler when we’re aware of our shadow and on good terms with it. Highly defensive people are often either blind to their shadow or terrified of it.
And then there are the glossy online profiles, the ones beaming “I’m all Light, no Shadow”. They get adored. They attract followers, people desperate for an icon, a guru, a leader. Someone who looks polished enough to worship. We are all on our way home and searching for the answer.
The denial of our shadow makes us vulnerable and blind to what is visible to the outside world. Your shadow offers a new sense of depth and meaning to our light, shadows reveal authenticity.
At midday the sun casts magnificent shadows.
As we grow in consciousness, the contrast intensifies.
The Shadow show that light is present
